Amy DeSorgher, DNP, CNM

Charity Shenk, MSN, CNM

Amy

Amy started on her path to midwifery at the age of 18, exploring different types of midwifery and birth work. She became a doula and lactation counselor. At one point her mom convinced her to go to nursing school and she obliged. Apprenticing with homebirth midwives in New York opened her eyes to what a transformative experience undisturbed birth can be for all involved, including those who have the privilege to witness it.

Amy went on to get her Masters of Science in Nursing (MSN) and Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP) from Frontier Nursing University. She has worked as a Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) in hospital and out-of-hospital settings since 2016.

She views birth as sacred wherever and however it transpires, but does have an undeniable love of homebirth. She birthed her three girls at home, her first with a midwife and her twins with an experienced obstetrician. She is passionate about informed choice and beyond excited to be continuing her midwifery journey with In Season.

Charity

Charity started her first undergraduate degree with an eye toward medicine, but ended up graduating from Eastern Mennonite University with a Bachelors Degree in Justice, Peace, and Conflict Studies. Her winding path took her through massage school and while working as a Licensed Massage Therapist, she began dabbling in the birth world and became an Infant Massage Parent Educator and Doula. It was throughout her pregnancy with her first son that she felt a strong pull toward midwifery. She completed her Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) at West Chester University and then worked in Labor and Delivery and High-Risk OB case management. She then went on to get her Masters of Science in Nursing (MSN) from Frontier Nursing University, completing her journey that she started dreaming of 10 years prior.

Charity has worked as a Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) in hospital and out-of-hospital settings since May of 2021. She is passionate about providing family-centered care and feels it a sacred privilege to walk with families on their birthing journeys.

She lives near Lititz with her husband and three sons, all three of whom were born with midwives (in three different settings - hospital, home, and birth center). She is thrilled to begin this new venture with In Season.
